Auxiliary Programs

The Auxiliary Programs at Evergreen are designed to provide year-round care, learning, and entertainment for students and friends of Evergreen School aged 2-1/2 to 9 years old. Children in our Toddler program may attend early bird and extended day programs in their own classroom with a separate care taker.

Teachers and professionals of the Evergreen School faculty staff all of the following programs:

EARLY BIRD PROGRAM: (7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.)

Evergreen responds to the needs of families whose schedules require an early start.  Early bird children engage in a variety of activities, such as reading, drawing, arts and crafts, puzzles, and game play.  The class size is small and allows for more teacher-student interaction.  The goal of the program is to provide care for the children and to ease their transition into the daily academic program.

EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM: (3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.)

The Extended Day program carries the Montessori principles beyond the end of the academic school day.  The atmosphere is warm and familiar, and the schedule is paced to include periods of stimulating outdoor play, arts and crafts, story time, baking, creative games, and special projects.  As the day winds down, we are responsive to the needs of our children with quiet story times, tabletop games, and increased individual attention.

Our Extended Day Spanish Immersion Program is designed to further that language development program in a natural environment using a variety of engaging activities that meet the developmental needs of our students.  Through songs, games, arts & crafts, cooking projects, story time, and general conversation, this program offers an opportunity for our students to be immersed in the language, with the goals being to become functionally proficient in the foreign language and to acquire a deeper appreciation for another culture.  Research has shown that immersion improves proficiency and listening comprehension to an advanced level and promotes understanding and speaking.  Each of our Extended Day teachers are native Spanish speakers so our students can experience conversational Spanish spoken with accurate accents.

Spanish has become the second unofficial language in the United States and is widely spoken around the world.  Learning to speak Spanish offers our children an essential skill that will serve them well throughout their lives.

Enrichment programs are offered during the Extended Day time frame.  These classes are a vehicle through which students can work with staff members or professionals from outside the Evergreen community who have a particular enthusiasm and skill in a specific area of study.  The programs vary, depending on current resources and demonstrated student interest and needs.  Enrichment classes have been offered in karate, piano, world music, choir, and dance.

HOLIDAY CARE:

This program provides care for children during portions of the extended breaks of the academic year.  The program’s main focus is on having fun.  The Holiday Care teaching staff supervises the children in well planned, exciting events, festive projects, and games.
