Give Light: Winter Festival 2018

Winter Festival 2018

In 1957, Martin Luther King said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

CandleWhile winter is our darkest season and the solstice is upon us, it’s fitting that our Winter Festival theme was Love, Light and Peace. We gathered to sing, celebrate and reaffirm our belief that our children are the best hope for mankind. The spirit of Evergreen is a bright light burning for a more peaceful and just future. When there are children, there is hope.

The values of our school– including our steadfast belief that every child and every person should be treated with dignity and respect– are the foundation for our commitment to justice and equality. May we continue to live the Mission of Evergreen and realize the aspirations of Ella Baker, a hero of the civil rights Freedom Movement, who wrote the words that we sang together:

Give light, and people will find the way,
Give light, and people will find the way,
Give light, and people will find the way,
People will find the way I do believe.

Teach peace, and people will find the way,
Teach peace, and people will find the way,
Teach peace, and people will find the way,
People will find the way I do believe.

Stand together, and people will find the way,
Stand together, and people will find the way,
Stand together, and people will find the way,
People will find the way I do believe.

Give love, and people will find the way,
Give love, and people will find the way,
Give love, and people will find the way,
People will find the way I do believe.
