Elementary Camping Trip

The annual Elementary class camping trip is a highlight for our students.  The two-day excursion is an important part of our effort to help children develop confidence, independence and resilience.  Overnight trips can be a big step for many children, and I am thankful for Mrs. Hannon and Hatziyannis's commitment to providing such an important experience with care and sensitivity to them.

Spring Festival 2018

What an amazing Spring Festival!  I am so grateful that so many families and friends came to celebrate with us on Saturday.  For the first time in ten years, the event took place indoors due to rain. The highlights, of course, were our children's performances--we even have a full video available to parents recorded (and edited) by father Michael Perrin.  Special thanks to our music director, Caitlin Garry, for all her leadership and enthusiasm.

Our Accomplished Alumni

At the Parent Association (ESPA) meeting last Friday, we had the extraordinary opportunity to hear from a few recent Evergreen alumni, Oliver Foley, Maya Kirsch, Emily Klein and Harry White. These children are now in the fifth through ninth grade at top area schools (St. Anselm’s Abbey, MCPS, Sidwell Friends and Lowell School, respectively).

Give Light: Winter Festival 2018

In 1957, Martin Luther King said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” While winter is our darkest season and the solstice is upon us, it’s fitting that our Winter Festival theme was Love, Light and Peace.

Animal Adventures! Critters & Conservation

Critters and Conservation returns to introduce real live, exotic animals! Under close adult supervision, participants will hold, pet, and feed animals throughout this course. Animals include birds, reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and invertebrates.

Evergreen children and families expressed gratitude for community, togetherness, teachers, pets, health and more at a variety of events and celebrations this month.  From classroom luncheons to food drives, craft projects and more. Concert with Paul Kaplan

The More We Get Together, the Happier We’ll Be! Evergreen welcomed folk singer and children’s performer Paul Kaplan for an all school concert. Paul was introduced by Maya, his granddaughter!

Elementary and Primary Reading Buddies

Reading is a joy. Reading with a friend is sublime. Our Elementary students and their Primary reading buddies get together every week to share the joy of reading.  Children take turns reading, and the older student acts as a literacy coach when necessary. Read on!

Parent Education Classes

Evergreen and our Parent Association hosted an awesome evening with Mrs. Molly Jackman from the Parent Encouragement Program (PEP) for a presentation and discussion on Positive Discipline on Monday, November 12. Manna Food Drive

Thanks to the generous support of our families, our Elementary class and their Primary third year partners collected over 400 donated items.  Students loaded over 50 bags into the Manna truck to take to their distribution center last week.
