Faculty Spotlight: Rebecca Tobin
Faculty Spotlight
Rebecca Tobin, Primary Teacher
I was born in NYC, and moved to Westport, Ct when I was 8 years old. My parents live in the house I grew up in, and I love to visit!
I have been a teacher for 20 years, and this is my 8th year at Evergreen.
I majored in child development at Syracuse University, however, it was not until after I actually began teaching that I realized it was the ONLY profession for me!
I am the very proud mother of Emme, age 5. Many of you probably already know that I adopted her at birth with just THREE days notice! No pets yet, although Emme keeps asking for a hamster! (I would prefer a dog!) I am the oldest child, and I have 2 younger brother; Aaron and Daniel. I also have nieces and a nephew; Isabel, Stella & Asher.
What are some of the most rewarding parts about teaching? Certainly at the top of my list is witnessing the progress and development of my students. I also love having the opportunity to make a positive impact on young children. I am so thankful to have a job that I can work hard at, and also enjoy so much!
What is your favorite thing about Evergreen? Evergreen is an authentic, supportive, and inclusive community. I have made many close friends here. In fact, I remain in contact with a few colleagues who have moved on.
What are your hobbies? Traveling is my passion! I am very fortunate to have visited several countries; India, Vietnam, China, Thailand, Morocco, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Egypt, Kenya, France, Italy, England, Spain, Belgium, Amsterdam, Norway, Sweden, Ireland, Costa Rica....and there are still many destinations left on my bucket list! I also love reading, movies, museums, swimming, and nature.
What is one item on your bucket list? One day I would love to have my own charming, cozy cottage in the woods!
