May 18 Update
Dear Evergreen Community,
As we approach Memorial Day and the end of the academic year on June 12, I’d like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all members of our community for your dedication and resolve during the past months. I’ve been so inspired by the way our community pulled together in the face of so many dire personal and professional challenges.
In particular, our teachers have been pouring their hearts into remote learning and the development of instructional videos, lessons and Zoom meetings. They have been able to maintain a sense of continuity and community for our students and their families during a time of tremendous turmoil.
And I am grateful for the way our students and families have responded to these changes while maintaining a loving connection to their classroom teachers and school.
New Guidelines and Protocols
For the past weeks, our administrative team has been reviewing and adopting guidelines from the CDC for safely reopening our building. We are eager to reopen following the directives of Maryland health authorities. And we've been reviewing our daily protocols with Milton Janitorial Services.
Our planning is guided by several key principles including (1) safeguarding the health and safety of our entire community and (2) maintaining our commitment to Montessori values. We’ve been carefully looking at social distancing protocols, determining how interior spaces should be organized, and establishing the capacity of our classrooms. We will continue to adapt to the evolving situation as we develop our plans.
Summer Programs Begin July 20
Given the continued uncertainty with COVID, we have made the decision to cancel all summer programs, including Toddler summer until Monday, July 20. All families will receive a full refund for any pre-paid fees and deposits for the Toddler Program, Montessori Summer, Travel Camp and all camp sessions and summer extended day from June 22 through July 17 (or Travel Camp June 15-19). Programs are scheduled to resume on July 20.
2020-2021 School Year
Looking ahead to the 2020-2021 school year that begins on August 31, we eagerly anticipate a return to face-to-face classroom learning for all our students with new protocols to ensure everyone's health and wellness. In order to help mitigate the uncertainty for our families caused by COVID, we will be updating the terms of the Tuition Protection Plan and planning for a potential school year extension. Additional details about changes to next year's program will be shared soon.
The pandemic continues to present extraordinary challenges for us all. I am confident that the Evergreen community will continue to work together in the spirit of kindness and cooperation as always.
All the best,
P.S., thanks to everyone who helped us through the AIMS/AMS Accreditation process. We have spent countless of hours reviewing our program, developing our self study report and, finally, meeting with the visiting team. Thanks to all our extensive work, the team's virtual visit last week was a huge success!
