May 27 Update

Dear Evergreen Community,

Every day I am hearing more and more optimistic news about next school year.  As more and more Montessori schools re-open in Maryland and around the country next month, we will have the benefit of their experience as we prepare our new health protocols. We are cautiously optimistic that there will be minimal need for distance learning from home. Evergreen benefits from an abundance of open classroom space in the Hughes church, and we are confident that we can structure our program so that we can meet stringent class size restrictions using all the third floor spaces-- and even fourth floor space if necessary.

Welcome Elizabeth
As you know, Evergreen teachers are the heart of our school. I have been so inspired by the way our teachers have embraced remote learning during these difficult weeks, even as they have longed to be back in their classrooms face-to-face with their students. As we look ahead to the new school year in September, I want to share bittersweet news about two upcoming staff changes for 2020-2021.

I am sad to announce that Melanie Binder and her family will relocate to England due to her husband's deployment orders. In her place, Ms. Elizabeth Hannan will join the Juniper Berry class as lead Toddler Teacher with Ms Lynn and Ms. Brittany.  But don't confuse her with Trish Hannon in Elementary class although both may derive from the Gaelic O' Hannain clan

Ms. Hannan comes to Evergreen with 15 years of Montessori Toddler experience including lead teaching at Franklin Montessori School and Reston Montessori School.  She received her Associate of Arts from Northern Virginia Community College and her Infant and Toddler Montessori credential from the Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies at Barrie School. And she will be bringing her beloved classroom pet rabbit, too!

While Ms. Melanie will be dearly missed, I know you will join me in heartily welcoming Elizabeth to our community!

All the best,
