Caitlin Garry, Music Teacher and Librarian

I was born in San Francisco, CA but moved at 3 weeks old to Nashville, TN because my father (who was in the Navy) was transferred there. I moved to MD when I was 7 and have lived here (apart from four and a half years in PA during college) ever since.

I knew from the time I was ten years old that I wanted to be a music teacher. I idolized Ms. Frylink, who was my music teacher during my fifth and sixth grade years. I love that I grew up to do exactly what I always knew I wanted to do… and the fact that I get to do it at Evergreen is an incredible gift to me!

I love that Evergreen is a place that really works to make sure everyone feels seen, heard, valued, and cared for. I love that I get to work with all of the children every week and really get to learn who they are as people as well as who they are becoming as musicians. The teachers and staff have a real camaraderie that I have not often found elsewhere.

I am the oldest of three children. My brothers are both younger than I am, but they each have sons of their own. I have three nephews: CJ is almost five, Jacob is three and a half, and Emmett was just born in mid-October of this year. CJ and Jacob and their parents live in Georgia, so I don’t get to see them as often as I’d like to. Emmett and his parents live here in Maryland, so I am getting in as much snuggle time as I can! My nephews are the lights of my life, and I am proud to be their aunt!

I love to sing, and I spend a lot of time doing that. When I’m not singing for the children at Evergreen, I sing with the National Philharmonic Chorale based at Strathmore Music Center in Rockville, and I sing with the Cantate Concert Choir, based in Bethesda. In my free time, I love to cross stitch, read, and binge-watch my favorite shows on Netflix.

I have traveled to most of the states in the US. I love to travel outside the country whenever I have the chance. My world travels have taken me to Canada, Norway, Denmark, China, Iceland, Bermuda, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Germany, Italy, France, Austria, and Hungary. Who knows where I’ll go next?!
